Sister Groundling: Online Edition

I was hired by The Groundlings in February of 2021 to design the poster for their upcoming show, Sister Groundling: Online Edition. The Groundlings had to adapt to the changes that the pandemic brought, so they started doing all their shows online, including this one. Pre-pandemic, Sister Groundling was an all-women show in which the ladies of The Groundlings would perform sketch comedy in front of a live audience. In the times of COVID, they brought the show back to be performed online every Saturday in March of 2021 in honor of Women’s History Month.

It was an honor to have been chosen to design the poster, and it was great to work closely with Lauren Burns, a current Groundling and cast member of Sister Groundling, to make her idea come to life. She approached me with the idea of making a poster that mirrors Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus”, with Lyric Lewis (another current Groundling and cast member) as Venus, and the rest of the cast as nymphs around her. I absolutely loved the idea and, almost immediately, the wheels in my head started spinning and planning out the composition of the poster. Working together, Lauren and I were able to bring her vision to life with the magic of Photoshop.
